say ‘Goodbye’ to hair loss

Hair loss can be caused by a number of factors, including stress, various medical conditions, and aging. Our expert team is here to help.

What causes hair loss?

There are endless conditions, lifestyle choices, and individual factors which can cause hair loss. So how do you identify which one is behind your symptoms?

Pregnancy / Childbirth

Your hair gets thicker and more luscious during pregnancy, but this causes a build up of shedding once the baby has been born. This shedding may seem excessive at the time, but is often simply returning your hair to its normal state after the extra growth during pregnancy.

Physical & Emotional Stress

Stress can lead to a series of different symptoms and health-related concerns, many of which lead to hair loss as a side effect. When the cause of stress is addressed, hair loss will cease.

Medication

It may be that you are taking one of the 100+ drugs which lists hair loss as a side effect. By coming off the medication you will see the symptoms ease, however you will need to discuss this with the prescribing doctor.

Chemotherapy

A commonly seen side effect of both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, hair loss is caused by the disruption to the functionality of cells in the body – with the drugs working to attack cancer cells, which in turn disrupts growth of the normal cells at the same time.

Alopecia

A condition which affects the auto-immune system, alopecia areata sees the body producing antibodies which work against your own hair.

Skin conditions

Skin problems like eczema and localised infections can lead to hair loss, especially those conditions which leave the skin itchy and raw.

FUE hair transplant

about the surgery
Follicular Unit Extraction is a process where healthy hair follicles are removed from a donor site and transplanted to areas where your hair has begun to fall out or is thinning.

Each of the grafts will collect between 1 to 4 hairs taken from the healthiest donor site where the hair is densest. It is then surgically implanted onto the area of the head, generally around the crown where your hair has begun to thin. It is a similar process to FUT hair transplants, but this uses one to four hairs at a time, whereas FUT hair transplants involve a strip of hairs and the scalp.

the steps

How does FUE work?

The first step to FUE is a consultation with your clinician. Using a donor site, one to 4 hairs are removed and transplanted to the desired area on the scalp. You can discuss this with your clinician to ensure you get the right process for your hair concerns.

The first thing that will happen is that the clinician will identify the best site for donor hair. They are looking for thick and dense areas with healthy hair follicles, usually found at the back of the neck or the sides of the scalp.

Local anaesthetic is used to ensure minimal pain. In FUE, a single hair follicle or a group of up to 4 are extracted. The extraction is done with a microsurgical instrument that enables your clinician to be very precise. You will also have almost no evidence that hair has been removed from the donor site.

The next stage involves a microsurgical needle which is used to puncture the scalp where the implanted hair follicle will be placed. This is where the skill of the clinician comes in, as it is essential to ensure that the donor hair is accepted and then grows at a natural angle to fit with the rest of your hair. Each area must be considered carefully to ensure the best and most natural-looking result.

The final stage is where the clinician inserts each graft individually into an incision. Hair is generally placed at a 40 to 45° angle as this will mimic your natural hairline and leave an unnoticeable finish.

benefits
For minimally invasive hair loss treatment, FUE surgery could be the perfect option for you.

FUE hair loss treatment is a permanent solution that adds volume and density to problem areas. The minimal scarring does fade over time, and because your own hair is used, the results are totally natural.

FUE hair treatment can be used for beards, eyebrows and other areas. It is a simple and painless procedure which is one of the reasons it is so popular. The recovery time from FUE hair transplant surgery is minimal, and results are suitable for both men and women.

DHI hair transplant

about the surgery
Designed to be one of the best ways to solve thinning hair, DHI is a hair transplant technique which is revolutionary and a great asset to the industry.

A unique tool is used to implant hair directly into the scalp. The pen-shaped tool has been specifically designed to enable the clinician to deliver the best hair implant results with minimal pain. Hair follicles are taken from the base and back of the scalp and then transplanted using the tool onto the areas of thinning hair. There are many reasons why DHI is so effective, and we will explain the process in more detail below.

the steps

How does DHI work?

There are similarities between the DHI implant process and the FUE hair loss treatment. They both use individual follicles of hair which come from the patient on a different part of their scalp and are used to fill in any gaps created when the hair thins.

To prepare for the procedure, the clinician will need to shave the part of the head where the transplant is being placed and then use a local anaesthetic to numb the area.

The clinician will then find the most suitable donor area, which generally is around the base or back of your scalp and around the ears. They will then need to extract each hair follicle individually from this defined donor site. (This is another similarity between DHI and FUE as both use this individual extraction).

It is now time for the individual hair follicles to be implanted. To do this, the donor site follicles are loaded into the tool and then each one can be implanted into the correct place so that the density can be achieved and the hair no longer appears to be thinning.

The treatment will take around 3 to 4 hours to complete depending on how much hair is being transplanted and, therefore, how many follicles they need to extract. Once finished, an antibiotic cream is applied. The clinician will give you full advice on the after-care of both the transparent site and the donor area.

benefits
Although very similar to FUE and FUT transplants, the benefit of DHI is that it utilises individual hair follicles.

The implantation tool also makes an incision in the scalp and implants the follicle in one easy movement. In FUT, for example, the clinician uses strips of hair, not individual follicles. This makes DHI a lot less painful and gives immediate results.

This treatment is perfect if you are suffering from hair loss and are over 25. Patients under 25 should take more advice as their hair loss can be more unpredictable. It is also essential that you have thick hair and that the donor site has a good density of hair. If you do not think you meet these criteria, it’s better to have an expert chat with our clinicians and see what they advise for your specific situation.
